The May Edit

Need some inspiration to keep the kids happy and entertained. Here’s our May Edit. Enjoy!

Google Arts & Culture works with institutions and artists from around the world to bring global art and culture online so it’s accessible to anyone, anywhere. We love the educational games which include, Guess the Line - where an AI robot judges your quick drawing skills, Where is Hopper? - a detective game to find a missing penguin friend and (our faves) Blob Opera (pictured) - enabling you to create and record your own opera by moving the different pitched blob characters and 3D Pottery - a therapeutic task of trying to duplicate and sculpt your own ancient pottery. Play on computer or download the free app to your tablet or phone here.

Young Planet is a simple cashless app, that enables parents to donate and request used, good quality children's items for free as and when you want. It was first launched by husband and wife duo, Jason and Emma Ash in late 2019 as a trial in London. Since then, they have expanded to several areas in the UK. The search categories (unsurprisingly) have a plethora of infant stuff, but older kids items can definitely be found and donated. Some highlights we saw included: sports kits, football boots, wetsuits and roller skates, as well as bikes and scooters. The app asks for your postcode when you register and it’ll use this to see what is available near you. You can download the app here.

If the idea of camping fills you with dread, but the rest of the family are keen, Embers Camping is a lovely compromise to suit even the most reluctant camper, whilst still enabling the kids to run feral. All (UK) campsites are situated in either national parks, National Trust sites, forests or by the sea. Each spacious pitch comes with it's own fire basket and you can chose to bring your own tent or book a Bell tent as well as mattress hire option. Each location not only has hot showers, flushing loos and washing up stations, they also have a snack bar providing essentials and freshly made, stone-fired pizzas available to pre order every evening. Daily pitch prices start at £9 for kids and £18 for Adults or from £45 for a Bell Tent (low season).
